Graham-Hoyland

23/04/2009

Deckhand and cook
June 2009- Jan 2010
Trip details:

The Adventure This voyage across the Seven seas and to the top of the Seven summits has never been completed before. Can it be done? Graham Hoyland has climbed Mount Everest and McKinley, the two hardest mountains, and has sailed across the Southern Ocean to Antarctica by sailing yacht, certainly the most difficult ocean, so he is confident that this project is possible. The Mountains and their climbing seasons Denali (North America, 6194m/20,320ft), mid May - mid July-CLIMBED Aconcagua (South America, 6960m/22,834ft), end of Jan - mid March Vinson (Antarctica, 4897m/16,023ft), mid Nov - beginning Jan Carstensz Pyramid (Australasia, 4884m/16,024ft), end of July - end of Nov. (but anytime). Everest (Asia, 8848m/29,028ft), mid March-end of May -CLIMBED Kilimanjaro (Africa, 5895m/19,340ft), end of July - end of Feb. Elbrus (Europe, 5642m/18,510ft), end of July- mid Sept. The Seas The Arctic The North Atlantic The South Atlantic The Southern Ocean-(SAILED) The Indian The South Pacific The North Pacific. The Journey Leave Florida and sail to Argentina through the South Atlantic to climb Aconcagua, recuperate at the southern end of Latin America ready for our crossing of the Southern Ocean. Vinson (Antarctica) can be climbed from late November to mid January. Then across the South and North Pacific to Carstenz Pyramid, west across the Indian Ocean to Africa and Kilimanjaro, up the Red Sea, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea to climb Elbrus. Then across the North Atlantic to attempt a summer traverse of the North-West passage, giving us a complete circumnavigation of all seven summits and seven seas in just over two years. The Boat Graham Hoyland has bought a 42 foot centre cockpit steel ketch. This configuration is safest when large seas are encountered. The steel hull is strong enough to withstand grounding on coral or the odd ice growler, unlike a plastic or wooden hull. The vessel is fitted with a large engine and generator set suitable for difficult conditions, and there are berths for six. The Man Graham Hoyland has worked on eight BBC filmed expeditions to Mount Everest and became the fifteenth Briton to climb the mountain in 1993. In his life-long search for the camera that his uncle Howard Somervell gave to George Mallory his expedition found the climber’s body. This featured in his film for BBC 2 “Lost on Everest.” He has also filmed and climbed Mount Denali and sailed a yacht to Antarctica. He works as a T.V. producer of BBC programmes, and is also a regular contributor to the travel section of The Independent newspaper. 07740871161 graham.hoyland@gmail.com

Experienced, all-rounder, female
Now, June 2009, ASAP
Trip details:

Who wants to enjoy many months of sailing in the Med, Aegean, anywhere that takes your fancy really,in return for sailing lessons. I'm open to offers!! I'm fairly new to sailing, with basic experience, but confident and a very quick learner so someone of reasonable experience who is able to pass on some knowledge would be great but I'll consider anyone who shows some interest. Experience and attitude is just as important as any formal qualifications but if you've got the qualifications too, great! Looking to sail from the Costa Del Sol, where the boat is presently based, to anywhere in the Med for starters. Then, who knows where we could end up!! Enjoy some relaxing time in the sun, exploring, anchoring off in suitable locations, build your sea miles and experience, etc. etc. The boat's safe, comfy and spacious and I'm a decent guy. No Pay Offered. Minimal contribution for food etc. would be appreciated.

Prior to the three week crossing, the 10 day grafting and trial sailing period running up to the start will be an opportunity to get to know the boat and for team bonding before the race. Only those able to commit to the 10 day preparation and sea trial period from 13 November can be accepted for a berth.

Looking for Crew for Sailing-Expedition
Immediately, see voyage details
Trip details:

We are looking for people who have the passion to join an exceptional project. In January 2009, we are starting the final leg of the circumnavigation of the world with a traditional 30m wooden sailing junk. The passage starts in Brazil, we are sailing all across the Pacific to Indonesia with stops on the magnificent islands of the South Seas. We are looking for people who could join our project immediately and be in Brazil as soon as possible to monitor renovation work on the boat. Mechanical and technical experience are an advantage, also people with carpenter skills are preferred. The ability to speak portuguese is desirable as well. It’s an opportunity for a great experience in a team of 12 people. Looking forward to hearing from you!

PHOENICIA

17/09/2008

Deckhand, competent crew, watch keppers, cooks, sailors
From 18th September 2009
Trip details:

This boat is replica of a ship from 600bc, the time which many believe the Phoenician's made the first circumnavigation of Africa. The ship was recently built in Syria and is heading for the Red Sea to re-enact this historic journey. The is an historic expedition the way the Phoenicians did it, so there is no engine and virtually everything is authentic. Conditions are relatively basic, there is no air con, microwaves or built in showers etc. We do have modern nav equipment and safety standards. Above all this is a sailing ship making a challenging trip around Africa..around the Horn of Africa and the Cape of Good Hope. The crew is unpaid and they generally make a modest contribution for food and their flights as this is genuinly a once in a life time adventure. There is a good mixture of experience and youth on board but we need some more hands to help sail the ship!

Trip details:

We have a Lagoon 500 (51ft) catamaran and need crew, preferably one or two couples (singles are OK) to sail with us (a married couple) from Gibraltar (around Mid October) to the Canary islands and then from the Canary islands to the Caribbean (around mid November). There will be no payment required but we would expect them to share the food costs and they need to pay their own flight costs to the yacht location and then from the final destination back to their home country. We are happy for them to spend some time on the boat in the Caribbean as well. I look forward to your response and will require some back ground information including sailing experience of any potential crew. Trip details:

Seeking a capable Captain for 78’ luxury charter M/Y in Oman. Warm greetings from Muscat. We are seeking an experienced captain for our 78’ M/Y Al Zahra (www.myalzahra.com). She is a custom wooden yacht that is currently in the Egyptian Red Sea but that we will be sailing to Oman soon to market for luxury charter. Oman offers beautiful cruising, fishing and diving and we hope Al Zahra will become the region’s top charter yacht. We are seeking a hardworking, hands-on captain with luxury charter experience. Someone who is looking for a long-term appointment in a professional but friendly environment with a strong family feel. Someone who would know how to run a charter yacht to deluxe standards as well as how to keep a wooden boat maintained in top condition. Oman is both enchanting and peaceful, but a home for poets not party animals! Please send resumes with a recent photograph to alibadawy@gmail.com. Good luck!

He should be a qualified skipper and she should be a good deck hand and an excellent cook. A crew well experienced in diving and kiting, surfing or windsurfing would be a plus. The boat should be ready for launching about mid September 2007 and the job would start about September 1st. Previously and up to October of last year I owned a 57 ft sailing cat very similar to a Lagoon 57. We sailed that boat for the last 12 years zig zagging around the World. The boat was used primarely for friends, family and ourselves. We love to explore remote undevelopped areas and do a lot of diving, hiking and kite surfing. To give you an example our last cruise took us fron Brisbane to Cairns to Lizard Island, to Bougainville Reef, to East Papua New Guinea, to the Salomon Islands and finally to Vanuatu. The program for the new Gunboat is not totally fixed but I am looking to sail her from Cape Town to Antigua and thereafter explore Cuba and some other places in the West Indies. We could then cross over to the Med and spend the summer there to return to Tabago, Roques Islands, Aves, San Blas and cross the Panama Canal to go back to French Polynesia and the beloved Pacific and Indian Ocean. We use the boat about 4 months per year and did very little charter with the former boat. With the Gunboat maybe we could try to offer some expedition type charters in remote areas but this is just a project at this stage and would be discussed with the new crew. I can say that we treat our crew nearly as family members and like them to participate, whenever possible, in all our activities. One of our previous crew stayed 7 years with us before she became pregnant and wanted to go back to the UK. Nick and Cat are still close friends and just came to visit and ski with us in Switzerkand. PLease let me know if you could be interested to join us and if yes, please send me your CVs and pictures and please elaborate on your interests and hobbies.

I am currently on the yacht until Thursday this week then returning home to Inverness, so if it were possible to meet that would be ideal
